October 7, 1945
Hello Ma:

Well, I am no longer in the Third Airdrome Sq. Now I am stationed at the little base of Irumagawa (near Tokyo) in the 11th Replacement Center Detachment. All that I and approximately 4,000 other boys are doing is waiting for a boat to take us to the United States.

Earl

[Scroll below to see the October 3, 1945, orders which resulted in this troop movement. The names are listed in order of each soldier's Adjusted Service Rating Score, abbreviated on the orders as ASRS. The score was computed according to months spent in the Army, months overseas, months in combat, and additional credits for children under 18 years of age. See the May 27, 1945, letter for sample scans of the Adjusted Service Rating Card that was used for making these computations.]
